Louisa Fitzgerald
2024 Hansen Graduate Designer
I’m Louisa, an emerging set and costume designer for theatre, opera and dance. My practice is informed by a passion for design history, and my skilled background as an artist and maker. I’m originally from Sydney where I studied a Bachelor of Design, and began designing for student and community theatre. I fell in love with storytelling through design, and quickly knew my passion for theatre would become my career. I relocated to Melbourne in 2022 to complete my Master of Production Design for Stage at VCA. I chose to complete a Masters to specialise my training for live performance, and to develop and extend my personal creative process to be ready to design in the industry. As well as design, I am also a skilled costume maker, and find my ability to understand textiles and garment construction to be a great asset to my designs. My skills as a set model maker are also strong, and I have worked as a model maker for designers Christina Smith, and Dann Barber. Additionally, I have worked as a design educator at Loreto Kirribilli, and Queen’s College at the University of Melbourne.
