Dan Giovannoni

Dan is an award-winning playwright and theatremaker from Melbourne. He has written plays for adults and children, including the critical and box office success Cut Snake. Other plays include Wrecking (Fat Boy Dancing/TRS 2012), and Two by Two (Little Ones 2012). He was an Associate Writer with Shopfront Theatre’s Junior Ensemble on imagine title here: the book of being young, and wrote the jukebox musical Digging Down under commission from Star of the Sea College. Dan worked as an Associate Artist with No Show on Shotgun Wedding as part of Next Wave 2012, and most recently staged an evening of new work called These Arms of Mine in his lounge room.

Awards include the Malcolm Robertson prize (Two by Two), Best Emerging Writer (with Amelia Evans and Paige Rattray, Cut Snake), Best Drama Writing (Short and Sweet, Kanat and the Red Army), and nominations for the Rodney Seaborn Playwrights award (Cut Snake) and for a Green Room award (Cut Snake).

He has worked as a guest artist with Back to Back and Theatre of Speed, and was artist-in-residence at Leonora District School 2011-2013. For Red Stitch he is currently writing Jurassica, for which he is also a current recipient of a Hot Desk Fellowship at the Wheeler Centre. Other projects in development include Cute Snake, House and Bambert’s Book of Missing Stories (for young audiences) and The Tomato Plant (a solo work).

He has a Bachelor of Creative Arts from Melbourne University and a Graduate Diploma of Dramatic Art (Playwriting) from NIDA.
