Caleb Lewis
Caleb Lewis is a multi-award-winning writer for the stage.
A former resident writer with Griffin Theatre, Australia’s premier new writing theatre, Lewis was mentored by Nick Enright (Blackrock, Lorenzo’s Oil) and later Edward Albee (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?) He has twice been shortlisted for the Griffin award and is the winner of an Inscription Award, the Mitch Mathews Award and the inaugural AWGIE (Australian Writer’s Guild Award) for Digital Narrative for his work on Otzi the Iceman (Australian Maritime Museum). Lewis’s play, Clinchfield, is also the inaugural winner of the Richard Burton Award for New Plays.
His plays include Nailed; Men, Love and the Monkeyboy; Dogfall; Death in Bowengabbie, Rust and Bone; Aleksander and the Robot Maid; Clinchfield; Maggie Stone (shortlisted for the WA Premier’s Prize) and Destroyer of Worlds, which premiered at the 2015 Adelaide Fringe and was named a brand new Fringe treasure by The Australian.
Installations and Interactive entertainments include Across a Crowded Room and From the Outside Looking In (Tamarama Rock Surfers’ HomeBrew Festival); Tin Shed Camping Tours (Tin Shed); Half an Hour Visit (Write Club) and the multi-platform live art experience, If There Was A Colour Darker Than Black I’d Wear It (Rising Damp) – Winner of the 2013 Ruby Award for Innovation.
Current projects include Hyboria; Atomograd and Good Behaviour as well as Commissions for Riverside; State Theatre Company of South Australia and Bell Shakespeare.
This year Destroyer of Worlds opens at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, Rust and Bone opens at Melbourne’s Theatreworks and Dogfall opens in Philadelphia (US).
